The Irish Midlands Youth Orchestra was formed in 2005 by Vincent Hunt ( well know cellist ) , and supported by Shane Brennan. ( art education officer ) It is now a well-established group of young musicians, aged between 12 and 21 who come from all over Ireland, for example: counties Westmeath, Offaly, Laois, Kildare, Meath, Galway, Roscommon and Longford.
The orchestra rehearses approximately one day per month during the school year, and for two or three day workshops during Christmas and the summer holidays,
This year we have formed a second orchestra for our younger /less experienced players- namely the Intermediate Orchestra.
To date we have performed in Dubai UAE , Bremen Germany, the National Concert Hall and of course more locally here in the midlands.
The project is run on a voluntary basis by parents of past and present members and all help is welcome.
We are always looking for new members and ideally this is best done at the beginning of a new season ( Aug / Sept )
